In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product SafetyCommission (CPSC), Zeneca Pool Products of Wilmington, Del., isvoluntarily recalling about 17,000 boxes of BAQUA PLUSTM OxidizerIncreaser tablets. The tablets are used to help maintain the clarity ofswimming pool water. The tablets could degrade and expand beyond theirprotective packaging at high temperatures. Contact with the chemicals inthese tablets, sodium perborate and sodium bisulfate, can burn the eyesand irritate the skin, respiratory passages and mucousmembrane.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product SafetyCommission (CPSC), Mardo International Distributors of Rio Piedras, PuertoRico, is recalling about 6,900 bottles of Aguarras mineral spirits, whichis used as a paint thinner. The product's packaging is not child-resistant; not labeled with the necessary warnings, cautions for useand instructions for appropriate first aid in case of ingestion; andresembles a liquor flask. The packaging violates the Federal HazardousSubstances Act and the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. Paint thinnerpresents a serious poisoning hazard, possibly causing chemical pneumonia,pulmonary damage and death.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product SafetyCommission (CPSC), Cosco of Columbus, Ind., is warning consumers to checkmore than 390,000 full-size metal baby cribs, manufactured since January1995, that may have been mis-assembled with the mattress platform beingused as a side rail. The crib side rail and mattress platform are the samesize and have been used in place of one another. CPSC standards limit thespace between side rail slats to no more than 2 3/8 inches. If the crib'smattress platform is used as a side rail, the distance between the slatswould be about 5 inches. Spacing this large enables an infant to becomeentrapped in the side rails, which could result in serious injury ordeath.

The crank is used to connect the pedal to the frame ofthe bike. If the crank breaks, the rider's leg can be injured by contactwith the broken crank or the rider can lose control of the bike, fall andbe injured.
